What We Train Your Dog To Do

The American School of Dog Obedience techniques combine praise, exercise and discipline, bringing dogs under their owner’s control and promoting a happier and more enjoyable pet. We will train your dog to be a calmer, well-mannered, and more obedient companion. We first instill in each animal the respect for its owner as being the dog’s leader. How do we do that, exactly? Combined with the owner’s demonstrated love and praise for correct behavior, we train your dog to do what you say in a gentle manner. You can’t simply talk dogs into obeying. Yelling or abusing them certainly doesn’t create positive lasting results. Our trainers understand that dogs can willingly and lovingly obey their owners without being physically abused.

Dogs are really intelligent animals. They can learn the difference between right and wrong. Dogs are also pack animals, which means they naturally seek the direction of a leader. When we interact humanely and positively throughout our training, we essentially speak the dog’s language. This allows the animals to see a leader in their owners which results in them obeying them. Our training is truly a mental process more than a technical one. Our trainers interact honestly with every animal because dogs can sense our true feelings. We are ultimately here to help your dog understand what is expected of them, not merely controlled by repetitive commands or treats.

Dog and Owner Training Available

All programs include teaching the owner as well as the dog. This assures the dog respects and obeys his or her owner, and not just the professional instructor. Don’t expect your dog to obey people other than you and its trainer. We make sure your dog is made to enjoy the experience of obeying you. Remember, dogs only obey in situations and circumstances they have been trained in. Therefore, it is important that you do not give them commands in situations unlike those they were trained in, until you have worked with them in those situations too. Also, it’s good to remember to give commands only when they are necessary. Otherwise, your pet might feel that the exercises are too restrictive. Give each command with a different tone of voice and don’t repeat commands.

When you enroll your furry friend in our training program, you can be assured that they will receive a productive and enjoyable experience using the gentle American School of Dog Obedience (ASDO) training method. We work on areas such as ‘move and wait,’ and the results we obtain using the Harlan Broat method are virtually immediate as opposed to the slow progress demonstrated by most animals enrolled in more traditional training environments.

The duration of one training session can vary depending on the needs of your dog. However, when we give lessons to the owners, we can start a lesson as early as 9 am and the latest being 6 in the evening Mondays through Fridays. We also offer some lessons on Saturday mornings. Dogs and owners are always present during owner training.
